Go Sisters Highlights
Marrrian Musonda—14 years
I felt good to have been part of the tournament because we won the finals in the netball category against Chawama. I also had an opportunity to learn how to; ‘working together, respecting our coaches’ through the movement games. However, I felt so humbled to have had a chance to interact with the deaf team; I didn’t think I could work with them from before. But in the name of sport and fun we were able to understand each other as they equally need to have fun just like we do. I can’t wait for next year to come so we can defend our title and it is my wish that ‘it will be as good as this one’
Zandile Zulu—15 years
It was my first time attending the Go Sister’s annual tournament, and I’m feeling so good regardless of our results in the pitch. We lost all our games but it was interesting seeing all my team mates happy, we haven’t had a real netball game until during the tournament; the results didn’t matter much as we made so many friends during the event and I felt so good to have played other schools from other provinces.
Johanna Knight
According to Johanna Knight, a UK Sport representative during the 11th Go Sister annual tournament, ‘I first started working on Go Sisters because of my job at UK Sport and I think what they are doing is really important, obviously it’s going to take a really long time to change the perception of equality but looking at what it can achieve in the long run is something that will bring both men and women to equal terms and that’s why I passionately support the go sisters.’ I used to take part in sport when I was in school, and it is important to see the girls really having a good time and I’m glad to have been part of this event in the copper belt for the first time and it strongly reminds me of the good time I played sport.
Thokozile Chipila – 16 years
The go sister programme has helped a lot of us young girls in a way that we are being kept busy, as we spend most of our time on the court playing basketball unlike other girl who do not take part in sport and ends up practice teenage drinking which leads them to do nasty and elicit things. Go Sister’s programme has also boosted our confidence as we tend to interact with so many people from different provinces. We have come all the way from living stone (southern Zambia) and we are here in Chingola (northern Zambia). This shows that the tournament is not all about winning but participation, interaction and it enables us learn from others as we come from different backgrounds. This is my last go sister appearance and would strongly edge all the girls that; through go sister I have not only leant how to play Basket ball but also how to develop a common understanding with my peers.
